How To Renovate A Sutton Coldfield Bathroom

Are you considering a bathroom renovation in Sutton Coldfield? Look no further! We recently completed a beautiful transformation of an old bathroom that featured modern amenities, improved functionality, and timeless aesthetics. Here’s a closer look at some of the key features of this renovation.

Removal of Outdated Fixtures

The renovation began with the removal of the dated 20-year-old tiles and bathtub. Our customers requested a more practical solution: a modern shower. This change maximised space while creating a cleaner, more contemporary look.

Removing The Tiles

After disconnecting and removing the bath we start to remove all of the tiles off the walls. To do this I am using a hammer and a chisel to prise the tiles away from the wall.

Creating Space with Smart Design

Next, we tackled a restrictive stud boxing that wasted valuable space. By removing this unnecessary feature, we opened up the bathroom, allowing for a more spacious feel. Following this, we made first fix plumbing adjustments to accommodate the new shower tray, vanity unit, and towel radiator, ensuring everything would function perfectly while enhancing the upgraded visual appeal.

Surface Preparation for Long-Lasting Durability

Before diving into the tiling phase, surface preparation was crucial to ensure a solid foundation. We tanked the entire shower enclosure using a waterproof tanking kit. This vital step ensures that no water will damage the bathroom, providing peace of mind to the homeowners.

To further strengthen the bathroom, we glued and screwed Jackoboard, a high-quality tile backer board, to the floorboards. This is one of the best possible options for preparing floors ready to be tiled, giving an ideal substrate that increases durability and prevents any future issues

Waterproofing Shower Enclosure

There are many ways to waterproof your wet areas in a bathroom (also known as tanking). In this photo I am using a liquid waterproof tanking system called BW1 by CTEC. This was really easy to use, as are other paint on tanking pastes.

Aesthetic Improvements with Expert Craftsmanship

To create a seamless finish, I built boxing out from the shower, aligning it perfectly with the window, enhancing the overall flow of the room.

The walls were then adorned with beautiful marble-effect ceramic tiles, which not only add luxurious style but also have the durability needed for a bathroom setting. To complement this, we chose a matching feature tile for the back wall of the shower, creating a stunning focal point that showcases the craftsmanship involved in the renovation.

Flooring Perfection

For the flooring, we opted for porcelain light wood effect tiles arranged in a herringbone pattern. This design adds texture and interest to the space. Plus, we installed a dark wood effect tile as a border around the perimeter of the room, providing a smart finish that ties the whole design together.

Bespoke Bathroom Features

One of the standout features of this renovation is the bespoke tiled shelf located within the shower enclosure. This practical addition enhances the shower's functionality while adding a personalised touch to the overall design.

Bespoke Tiled Shelf

This is the shelf that I built out of the exact same tiles I fitted in the bathroom. I hand selected a tile with a vein running through to add to the visual effect of the shelf. I built base out of tile backer board from Jacko-board and filled the mitres with colour matched resin.
